An Auspicious Way to Begin the New Year and a new School Season

September 12, 2017

Happy Ethiopian New Year Dear Supporter,

As the Ethiopian summer is coming to an end and the heavy rains of the season are subsiding in their intensity and frequency, we know that it is almost time for a new school year to start. This is the time our teachers and hundreds of their young students have been waiting for the last two months. It gives us great pleasure therefore to inform our esteemed supporters and partners that the new school year has started today September 12, 2017, a day after the new year just began yesterday September 11, 2017.

We have finalized the selection of a new batch of 30 students, all over the age of four, who will soon join KG1. The recruitment of this group of students is done by teachers and staffs at the school and is based on a criterion established to select only those who are in the greatest need of our assistance.

We have also another announcement to make at this promising moment. On August 28, 2017, we have the privilege of receiving a significant donation of children books by one of our early supporters, Mr. Alem Eshetu.  Mr. Alem, who is a well-known author of children\’s books and was an assistant professor at the Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, began his association with the Fregenet Kidan Lehitsanat School a few years ago when he, together with his friend, gave a well-received training to teachers at the school. His donation, which was worth 3,620 birr, included 250 books consisting of 26 different titles which he wrote over the years. Mr. Alem, who lives in New York, also promised to continue his support to the school and donate books in the years to come.

We at the Fregenet Foundation and School would like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank Mr. Alem for his unreserved support and commitment to continue this fruitful collaboration in the future. We encourage our partners and other well-meaning people to continue their support of the Foundation, its school and future projects in any way they can.

Thank you very much, and Happy Ethiopian New Year,

The Fregenet Foundation
