Student’s day celebration at the new plot of land

February 23, 2023

Dear Friends and supporters,

As customary, Fregenet Kidan Lehitsanat School celebrated student’s day on Saturday January 28, 2023. This year, the school administration chose to celebrate the event at the new location where the Addis Ababa City Administration, recently, availed the school a plot of land to build a permanent facility. This event was also a special opportunity to introduce the future location of FKL to our FKL family. As mentioned in our previous communication, FKL plans to build a modern elementary school facility here. This new site, located within a few blocks of the current rented school, is 1674 sqm (approx 18,018 sq ft) where FKL has been operating for the past 18 years.

After receiving the copy of the title deed for the land from the city administration few months back, FKL was busy with contractors fencing in the plot of land and securing it. Once that work was successfully completed, the school administration took the opportunity to hold the student’s day festival at this site.

The event hosted FKL family, supporters, local government officials, as well as other invited guests to celebrate the day with our students. It was a good opportunity to get to know the location of the future school site.

Amongst our guests were also, Fregenet’s first batch of students, when the school first opened back in the fall of 2004. Invited guests, students, parents, and staffs were all very happy and excited to witness their presence after so many years. We were happy to learn that this first batch of students included some college graduates in the fields of architecture, engineering, and various other fields. Some are currently seniors in their respective colleges. A couple of them have even started a family of their own and attended with their children. Officials of the school were very thrilled and emotional to see these former students grown up and become a productive member of society.

AS part of the ceremony, our 4 and 5 years old students presented a lively show of various cultural dances and songs, read poems, fashion show and acted a musical drama. Invited guests were entertained by the youngster’s performances and enjoyed their acting, dancing, and superb reading skills at the highest level.

One of our most important attractions of the event was the disclosure of the preliminary design of the school to be built at this site. The design work was presented by Mr. Israel Tewodros, the architect at Blue dot, Architects & Engineers Plc., our partner.

Mr. Israel explained the design and its programs, as well as the size of the future building supported by 3D renderings, drawings, and poster size pictures.

At the end of the ceremony, Elizabeth Asrat, representing The Fregenet Foundation and Mekdelawit Fantaye, vice chair of the Fregenet Kidan Lehitsanat board gave closing remarks and reminded supporters of the organization to double down their effort for the upcoming big feat of the school construction and continue their contribution to make building of this state-of-the-art facility a reality.

Thank you very much!
