Dear Friends and Supporters,
On Saturday 2nd of April 2022, the annual health checkup for students was held at the Fregenet Kidan Lehitsanat school compound.
Over the past two years, due to the burden that the COVID-19 pandemic had caused on the healthcare as well as the education system, we were forced to interrupt our health screening practices. Fortunately, although we still had to restrict the number of students seen in order to practice social distancing measures, we were able to have the students evaluated by our volunteer pediatricians this year.
Organized by Dr. Kalkidan Allachew, Dr.Tewabech Belege and her colleagues, Dr.Betelhem Damtie and Dr.Mulualem Nigussie, who are all practicing pediatricians with many years of experience, evaluated 28 of the students that were selected by the teachers. Students were evaluated for their nutritional status, for their age specific mental and physical development as well as for the specific complaints they present.
In collaboration with Santé medical laboratories, blood, urine, and stool samples were analyzed and results collected. Seven of the students required specialty evaluation and were referred to tertiary hospitals and are still ongoing treatments there for minor issues.
Nineteen students had prescriptions ordered by the physicians and have received the medications with full expenses covered by the Fregenet School.
On behalf of The Fregenet Kidan Lehitsanat School and the students, we would like to express our deep gratitude for the volunteer doctors who dedicated their precious time to help our students and for Santé medical laboratories for their continued support.
Thank you very much,
The Fregenet Foundation
