We are happy to report that the new school year (2005 Ethiopian Calendar) at Fregenet Kidan Lehitsanat (FKL) is well underway with a renewed commitment to educate and support the needy children in the Kirkos area of Addis Ababa.
The school is educating more students than ever before. The school began the year with 174 students, including the 30 new enrollees in its Kindergarten programs. As in the past, the selection of the new students was made in collaboration with the two Woredas (sub cities) in the vicinity.
Efforts continue to fill the school\’s quota of 60 students in the Kindergarten and to replace the few students who occasionally transfer to other schools. An average of 260 children benefit from Fregenet School\’s feeding program every day, including those students above grade four who commute from other schools.
At the start of the school year, new school uniforms and stationery supplies were issued to 228 students, including some who attend neighboring government schools. The Fregenet School wishes to express its profound appreciation to the Awash International Bank for its generous support in purchasing this year\’s uniforms. Fregenet School board members and management formally conveyed their heartfelt thanks to the President of the Bank, along with an appeal for the Bank\’s continued assistance.
Feeding, clothing, and providing a top-quality education to the students of FKL takes hard work and dedicationónot only in running the school but in raising the funds to maintain and expand the school\’s programs. The reward for these efforts is seeing the smiles on the students\’ faces and the hope in their eyes for a brighter future.
