Dear friends and supporters,
Can you believe it is time for another marathon? Well, neither can our runners! It seems as if there is never enough time in the week to practice and train, stretch and recover, and then start all over again. So what, you might ask, keeps our favorite Fregenet Foundation marathoners running year after year?
You guessed it. It\’s the kids. It is the faces that show up eager and washed at the gates of our little school, wanting to learn, choosing to hope, deciding to work hard at their letters and their math problems so that someday their lives will be big and meaningful.
And of course it is also the memories that keep our runners dedicated. Many of us who are reading this message have moments each week, perhaps each day in which we remember a neighborhood, a place, a relationship in our past…in a country we carry around in our hearts at all times. It is not only the dream of a brighter future for the children of Ethiopia but also our cherished memories – some wonderful and some heartbreaking – that make us put one foot in front of the other mile after mile, March 16 for 5K and March 17 for 26.2 miles.
Some of us will be literally making that journey, conquering that marathon step by step. But those of us who are not running can still be partners in the effort by making a contribution to our runners who, ready or not, trained or untrained, seasoned or green will be setting off once again in the quest to make a difference in Ethiopia.
