July 14, 2017
Dear Friends and Supporters,
On July 09, 2017, the governing board of the Fregenet Foundation held its quarterly meeting and made a number of important decisions. At the top of the agenda was a report from the Executive Director, Mr. Tafesse Woubshet, concerning his three-month and half working visit to Ethiopia. The director informed the board of a new understanding reached between the Foundation and officials of the Addis Ababa Municipality. The new agreement is expected to extend the reach of the foundation and enhance its ability to extend services to underprivileged children in the city and the neighboring areas.
The Executive Director also informed the board on an exciting breakthrough to acquire land outside the capital for a preschool. Mr. Woubshet informed the board that an operational agreement has been signed with Bishoftu/Debereziet, through its education bureau, following the acceptance of Fregenet’s proposal by the Oromia Regional office. This is a very encouraging development as a result of the ED’s recent trip. We will update our progress as we move towards securing the piece of land, designing the preschool and obtaining the construction permit.
On a separate note, it is with sadness that we must bid farewell to a devoted and faithful member of our band. Mr. Peter Davids is stepping away from the board after the completion of his term. The board would like to take this opportunity to express its gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Peter Davids for his five years of dedicated and enthusiastic service to the cause of the Foundation. He will be greatly missed and it is the board’s desire to wish him the very best in all his future endeavors.
A number of roles needed to be shifted and reassigned in order for us to maximize our potential. At our meeting, the Board unanimously approved the appointment of Mr. Tafesse as President and Chairman of the Board replacing Mrs. Elizabeth who now assumes the position of Financial Officer. Dr. Shimelis Bonsa, a board member, will now be Secretary of the Board succeeding Mr. Peter Davids.
We would also like to take this occasion to thank our partners at Fregenet Kidan Lehitsanat, its board and staffs, our esteemed supporters in the US and Ethiopia, for making the latest steps forward possible. At the same time, we would like to inform our partners to stay tuned for an upcoming report on a number of exciting developments.
Thank you very much,
The Fregenet Foundation
