Capital Campaign for Fregenet Dembi Elementary School Construction

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We trust you and your loved ones are doing well in this challenging time. As we look inward, we acknowledge the current condition we are all under is daunting and uncertain. Still, we have witnessed the power of hope, perseverance, and resilience in the children and families we serve. They have weathered tougher times yet; they remain grateful for any support we provide them. We believe that as long as we unite with positive strength and show solidarity towards a better and healthier future, we will get through these challenging times together.

We are writing to you from a place of excitement, anticipation, and urgency as the work set out by The Fregenet Foundation, including the educational opportunity offered to many of our students in Ethiopia, continues and is on high demand due to COVID.  As you may remember, a significant new development began with a partnership from the local school administration in the town of Debra Zeit, a short drive outside of Addis Ababa.  We are proud to announce that this relationship has helped us reach another milestone, The Fregenet Dembi Elementary School construction is underway. 

As you can see from the pictures taken recently, the construction has moved ahead despite the current staggering price increase of essential building materials like cement, and the extraordinary supply shortages on the market. Our contractor, Flintstone Engineering, is doing its best to move forward in completing the work under this challenging circumstance. 

Thus far, the foundation has submitted 41% of the construction cost as the initial down payment and second payment, respectively, which some of you generously contributed towards a few years back during our capital campaign. We are filled with gratitude for your generosity and humbly ask you to consider supporting the completion of this Elementary School that will serve many children by providing quality education.

We were aware of the undertaking of such a project was never going to be easy. But we also know we have friends and supporters that have been part of our 15-year journey. You are the building block of this foundation, and it is through your donation that we can see generations change because we were able to provide an educational opportunity which most of our students wouldn’t have otherwise. At this moment, we are asking you to dream with us, so we can realize the next cohort of students that will be graduating from Dembi Elementary School- with your timely contribution, we look forward to welcoming students to a brand-new facility soon.
