Happy Ethiopian New Year

September 7, 2016

Dear friends and supporters,

This coming Sunday, September 11, 2016 is the celebration of a New Year in Ethiopia and for Ethiopians all over the world.  Close to the Julian Calendar, for Ethiopians, this New Year is the beginning of year 2009, seven years behind the Gregorian calendar.

The month of September is also the beginning of the new academic year at Fregenet Kidan Lehitsanat (FKL).  The school will ring in the year by accepting a new group of 30 four-year-old preschool students.  It is therefore with a sense of thrill and optimism that we at the Fregenet Foundation welcome the New Year and the new school season.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our donors and supporters a Happy Ethiopian New Year!  May the year 2009 bring you peace, joy, love, health and fulfillment.

As you can imagine, feeding, clothing, and providing a top-quality education to the students of FKL takes hard work and dedication—not only in running the school but also in raising the funds needed to maintain and expand the school’s programs.  We are confident that, through your generosity, you and your loved ones will continue to be a beacon of hope for our needy students.

As we have said again and again, “the calendar is poised to tick over a new number, we ask you to remember something that does not change; the power of hope and opportunity in a child’s life.”
